The online journal Cancer and Metastasis Reviews recently published a study that found plant-based nutrients and compounds to reduce the growth of cancer. Gary Meadows, a Washington State University professor discovered that more than 40 plant-based compounds could allow specific genes to suppress metastasis, the spread of malignant cells. Meadows believes that within the study of cancer, emphasis is shifting from the cancer itself to the body’s environment, which is greatly affected by diet. After conducting this study, Meadows says he appreciates natural compounds’ ability to slow or halt cancer development more than ever.
