A scientific study recently declared that vegans tend to live longer than omnivores, and now major media outlet Reuters is spotlighting vegan athletes who know that the benefits of plant-based eating are often showcased through athletic performance. Ultra-marathoners Brendan Brazier and Scott Jurek are both repeat winners of long-distance races and vocal proponents of vegan living––Brazier is the author of Thrive Fitness, and Jurek chronicles his victories in the running world as a vegan athlete in Eat & Run. Brazier suggests consuming daily fruit and veggie smoothies to begin transitioning into a vegan diet. “We see [vegan] athletes recovering faster, maximizing training, and thereby improving performance,” registered dietitian, personal trainer, and VegNews columnist Julieanna Hever tells Reuters.
