Record 12,000 Vegan Activists March for Animal Rights in London

On Saturday, approximately 12,000 activists gathered in London for the Official Animal Rights March—the largest attendance at the event to date. Organized by animal-rights groups Surge and Animal Rebellion, the march first launched in 2016, attracting 2,500 activists and expanded in 2018 to boast more than 10,000 participants. “Animal Rebellion’s message to the public, policymakers, and the future citizen’s assembly is that we need to urgently end the industries of animal farming and fishing, and transition to a plant-based food system in order to avert climate breakdown, mass extinction, and ensure justice for farmed animals,” Animal Rebellion spokesperson Dan Kidby said. Activists, some dressed as animals, marched with signs that said, “Be Kind, Be Vegan,” “Not your mum. Not your milk,” and “Vegan from ma head tomatoes.” Similar events are planned this year for more than 40 cities worldwide.
