Evangelical leader Reverend Franklin Graham announced to his 745,000 Twitter followers that he is adopting a vegan diet in the new year. Graham frequently conducts sermons at “mega churches” around the country and is the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. The reverend posted a photo of his first vegan breakfast—a jar of peanuts and a jug of unsweetened tea—to Twitter on January 1, stating that he was hungry. Nearly 2,000 people reacted to his post, suggesting he watch vegan documentary Forks Over Knives and eat plenty of sweet potatoes and legumes. His followers also reminded Graham that there are plenty of “God-given” non-animal proteins that would keep him satiated.
