Starting May 15, supermarket chain Sainsbury’s will stock Sweet ‘n’ Smoky Veggie Ribz at more than 450 locations across the United Kingdom. Created by British brand Plant Power, the new vegan meat is made from a base of tempeh and comes with a smoky barbecue sauce. “We’re really excited to be working collaboratively with Plant Power to bring more options to the barbecue banquet this summer,” Sainsbury’s Plant-Based Buyer Frankie Campbell said. “We’re always looking out for new ways to pioneer with our plant-based products and are thrilled to offer our customers yet another delicious option to suit their lifestyles and tastes.” In recent months, Sainsbury’s has seen a 24-percent increase of customers looking for vegan products online and a 65-percent spike in sales of plant-based products. Plant Power’s Veggie Ribz will be available in-store and online for an introductory price of £3.50 ($4.55) for the first four weeks, after which the price will increase to £4 ($5.20).
