San Francisco-based bakery chain La Boulangerie recently launched Vegan Croissant Toast, which is available at select Whole Foods Market locations in CA, Costco locations in the San Francisco Bay Area, and for pickup at its bakery locations—with online purchasing through its website soon to be added. The toast (which retails in-store for $7.75 per loaf) uses sustainable palm-derived fat in place of butter and La Boulangerie is currently working on a reformulation using coconut-based fat.

The brand launched a non-vegan croissant toast last year but developed the vegan one to serve customer demand. “Our customers have been craving our croissant toast from day one,” La Boulangerie CEO Nicolas Bernadi told VegNews. “While we had national distribution at Whole Foods Market, we were witnessing the rise of vegan food and thought that it would be amazing if we could offer those consumers a similar delicious product. That’s how the vegan croissant toast was born.”

In the future, La Boulangerie expects to launch a variety of vegan options, including sweet and savory croissants, brioche loaves and buns, and snacks.
