Stand-up comedian Tig Notaro announced that she has adopted a vegan diet. The performer—known for her Amazon original series One Mississippi—adopted a vegan diet two months ago with her One Mississippi co-star (and real life wife) Stephanie Allynne. Notaro was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and, after having a double mastectomy, performed a powerful standup act entitled “Hello, I Have Cancer” to spread breast cancer awareness while helping herself heal. “I’ve been in chronic pain since I was sick five years ago,” Notaro told W Magazine, “and I just tried shifting my diet dramatically. I became pain-free four days into shifting my diet, so we’ve just been trying to educate ourselves more about it.” Notaro and Allynne are parents to twin baby boys and turned to actress Alicia Silverstone’s cookbook The Kind Diet for recipe inspiration and to create simple meals—such as brown rice or quinoa with mashed avocado and sea salt—at home. “I just love looking at vegan food and reading about different health news alerts and new discoveries,” Notaro told W Magazine, before explaining that her cat (@TheRealFluffNotaro) follows more than 100 vegan accounts on Instagram. “I just follow what my cat follows,” Notaro said. “She’s the boss.”
