Today, Starbucks unveiled its limited-time spring menu at participating United States locations featuring two new vegan drinks: Iced Golden Ginger Drink and Iced Pineapple Matcha Drink. The first option is made with ginger, pineapple, and turmeric flavors shaken together with ice and coconut milk, while the second, also made with coconut milk, features premium matcha green tea and is flavored with pineapple and ginger. “We were inspired by Venice Beach and the California sun, reminiscent of a L.A. kind of vibe,” Kris Murray, product specialist for the Starbucks Beverage Research & Development team, said. “[Their] vibrant color and sunny flavors make you think of springtime.” Starbucks previously experimented with coconut milk-based vegan drinks, including the “Dragon Drink” (made with pieces of dragonfruit) which the chain added to its permanent menu in the US and Canada last April. Starbucks’ emphasis on new dairy-free options is part of CEO Kevin Johnson’s sustainability mission to shift the company away from dairy, which accounts for 21 percent of its carbon footprint.
