Two-person design studio Analog Watch Co. developed the Somm Collection—a line of vegan watches that smell like wine. Design duo Andi Maddalo and Lorenzo Buffa created the watch bands with vegan leather and sustainably sourced cork that they dyed using red wine and blueberries. The watches feature a double-layer sundial and brushed metal case in five hues inspired by wine: rose gold (rosé), black (Cassis),  gold (chardonnay), and silver (sake). “We know how much impact humans have on the environment, so it is our imperative to make sure our products minimize the damages we cause to the planet,” Buffa told VegNews. “This includes our choice to use an animal-free vegan leather.” The studio’s previous collections were all tied to nature and featured timepieces made with flowers, moss, wood, and marble. The Somm collection was successfully funded on Kickstarter this month and the company—through its partnership with conservation organization Cork Forest Conservation Alliance—will plant an oak tree in honor of every person who backed its campaign.
