Tofu Recalled

Quong Hop & Co products contaminated.

San Francisco-based Quong Hop & Co, producer of tofu, hummus, and other soy-based products under the Raquel’s brand name, has recalled 90 of its products due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The company is one of the largest producers of tofu in California, and its products are distributed across the northwest US. The contaminant found lurking in Quong Hop & Co.’s factory can cause listeriosis, which is the second largest killer due to food-borne illness in the US. Because the contaminant was also found in the company’s factory in 2007, this latest health violation could mean serious consequences for Quong Hop & Co’s future operations.
