Tofurky to Debut in the United Kingdom

This September, Tofurky deli slices, sausages, and tempeh products will be available in the United Kingdom at Holland & Barrett health stores. The move comes as meat alternatives are booming among the three million-plus vegetarian population in the UK. With plans to extend to larger outlets such as Whole Foods Market “in due course,” Tofurky chairman Seth Tibbott says he “can’t wait to share Tofurky with UK retailers.” Restaurants have already taken note of the growing demand for meat-free meals, with sales of vegetarian items increasing 12.5 percent faster than meat dishes at Pret a Manger restaurants, leading that group’s CEO to explore the idea of opening exclusively plant-based branches.
