Grammy-award winning singer Toni Braxton is transitioning to a plant-based diet to help manage her symptoms of lupus, an auto-immune disease. The 52-year-old singer was diagnosed with the disease—the symptoms of which cause joint inflammation, swelling, and damage to joints, skin, and vital organs—in 2008. “I was petrified, depressed, and scared, but I realized I had to change my life. I may have lupus, but I decided I was not going to be a victim. Now, I listen to my body,” Braxton told Prevention. “I’m becoming plant-based. I’m in the process. But I’m going fully plant-based. It’s making me feel better, so there is some truth to it. But I do miss a good burger.” Lucky for Baxton, there are many plant-based burgers that can help the singer seamlessly transition, including Burger King’s Impossible Whopper, Carl’s Jr.’s Beyond Famous Star, and White Castle’s Impossible Slider—which she can now order topped with vegan cheddar cheese at the chain’s New York and New Jersey locations.
