Toronto Blue Jay Pitcher Stays Loyal to Pitbull

After being unexpectedly traded from the Miami Marlins one year into his contract, Major League Baseball pitcher Mark Buehrle will be on the mound for Toronto Blue Jays this season, but he’s faced with a dilemma: his beloved family pitbull Slater is not allowed in Ontario due to a breed-discrimination law. Instead of giving Slater up, or filing an appeal and confine confining the dog to a cage while the Canadian courts deliberate, Buehrle’s family will stay behind in the US with Slater and visit when they can. “If people don’t own dogs, they’re not going to understand—you’re leaving your family and your kids behind over a dog?” Buehrle tells The New York Times.
