People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals released an investigative video to CBS that depicted workers from a Linda Bean’s Main Lobster plant in Rockland, ME ripping off crabs and lobsters’ appendages, slamming them into spikes, and pushing them into fast-moving bristles while they were still alive. This method of slaughtering and deconstructing the lobsters is against Maine laws, which prohibit killing animals in any way that does not result in instant death. While some scientists have alleged that lobsters do not feel pain, a recent study published in The Journal of Experimental Biology proves that this is not true and that they are sensitive to painful stimuli. According to CBS, PETA will file criminal complaints with the local authorities and the district attorney.
