A fierce chili face-off will be hosted by vegan shop V Marks the Spot this weekend.
February 1, 2017
Amatuer vegan chili competition Super Philly Chili Bowl will be held at community center The Rotunda in Philadelphia on Saturday. The event is hosted by local vegan shop V Marks the Shop, and will showcase 20 contestants cooking their own chili recipes for a chance to win the grand prize, a Fagor America Lux Multi-Cooker. Host of The Vegan Roadie web series Dustin Harder will emcee the event, which will feature food and drinks from local vendors such as Greens & Grains, Batter & Crumbs, and Pollock’s Kefir Pop. Guests will also be entered to win raffle prizes from Beyond Meat and Louisville Vegan Jerky Company. “Philadelphia may be known for its cheesesteaks,” V Marks the Shop co-founder Carlo Giardina said, “but it has so much more to offer! Now that veganism is booming, it’s time to put more classic dishes on the map in this city!” The competition will be judged by Bearded Vegan podcast co-host Andy Tabar, Vegucated producer Demetrius Bagley, and LJ Steinig—winner of V Marks the Shop’s 2016 vegan mac n’ cheese competition, Philly MAC-Down. Tickets for the all-ages event are $20, and 25-percent of profits will be donated to New Jersey’s Tamerlaine Farm Sanctuary.
