A vegan chocolate Easter egg made by British supermarket ASDA was chosen as one of three first-place winners in Good Housekeeping’s annual Easter treat blind taste test. ASDA’s Extra Special Free-From Dark Egg & Truffles (£5 or $6.50 per package) were given a score of 80 out of 100 by taste experts and chosen as one of the winners from a group of 31, mostly dairy-based, Easter-themed confections that ranged in price from budget to high-end. “Our testers loved this melt-in-the-mouth thin dark chocolate shell studded with crunchy cocoa nibs,” Good Housekeeping described ASDA’s vegan chocolate eggs which also won the “Free From” category. “The flavor is beautifully balanced with a fruity finish and the gooey truffles have a creamy consistency. So delicious, testers kept coming back for more.” In previous years, British vegan brand Booja-Booja scored high marks during the annual taste test for its confections, including in 2018 when the company’s vegan hazelnut chocolate crunch truffles (which come in a hand-painted Easter egg container) were chosen by 80 taste-testers as the overall winner.
