New vegan eatery Nateure’s Plate will replace a 15-year-old restaurant and wine bar in Peterborough, Ontario in December. Nateure’s Plate—a name that combines co-owner Nate White’s first name with “nature”—will offer all-vegan comfort food such as Mozza Sticks, Wings, Chicken and Waffles, Fish and Chips, Bacon Cheeseburgers, and Smoked Brisket Sandwiches, as well as cocktails, kombucha, and local beer, with plans to launch a vegan breakfast menu in January 2019. Nate, who is a self-taught vegan chef, and his sister Danielle White, decided to open the restaurant together after they found local vegan options were limited. “When I go out to eat, I want comfort—I want the foods I grew up eating,” Nate told VegNews. “If we can provide these delicious traditional dishes using plant-based ingredients, we know it will be a great middle ground for people who eat an animal-based diet and also vegans, while simultaneously smashing the stigma that vegans only eat salads. Our goal is to create change through taste.” The siblings hope to eventually turn Nateure’s Plate menu items into retail products to encourage other restaurants to offer more vegan options.
