Vegan Food Truck Serves Hurricane Florence Victims

Victims of Hurricane Florence will be served vegan food today, courtesy of animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). A vegan food truck will drive to a shelter, fire department, and police station in Fayetteville, NC, where it will hand out Chik-un and Bac-un wraps, complete with vegan ranch dressing. “PETA is dishing up some love—and lunch—for first responders who have helped so many residents and for families who are still recovering from losses,” PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman said. “Floods are devastating our region, but each of us can help fight climate change and save animals’ lives by choosing delicious vegan meals.” Florence dumped record rainfall in the area for several days which local health officials report has caused waste lagoons from factory farms to overflow, contaminating drinking water for local residents. Current reports from the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services show that more than 3.4 million chickens and turkeys and 5,500 pigs—many trapped in cages and factory sheds—have perished after the storm.
