This week, vegan meal kit company Purple Carrot announced the launch of The Garden Incubator (TGI), a new service that will support the growth of early-stage plant-based startups. TGI will offer new companies a variety of services to help them scale, including providing business consulting in areas such as strategy, branding, marketing, e-commerce, operations, fulfillment, and data analytics. The incubator—which counts venture capital firm Unovis Partners as its founding sponsor—will also provide $250,000 in seed funding to participating startups, which will be fulfilled through plant-based investment firm New Crop Capital. “The plant-based space is in the midst of a powerful transformation with a range of early-stage brands that are struggling for investment dollars, product-market fit, and distribution,” Purple Carrot Founder and CEO Andy Levitt said. “With The Garden, our goal is to accelerate the positive trajectory of qualifying brands, improve their focus and enable rapid and improved distribution in the US and beyond.” Purple Carrot was founded in 2014 with the help of longtime New York Times columnist Mark Bitman and signed a $30 million acquisition deal earlier this year with Oisix ra daichi Inc., Japan’s largest meal kit and organic food delivery service.
