Scottish chef Danny McLaren (known as the “Mad Chef”) will bring back his popular “V Mac” burger to pop-up Durty Vegan Burger Club on May 25. The burger—a vegan copycat of McDonald’s iconic Big Mac—features a patty made by local brand Sgaia’s Vegan Meats, iceberg lettuce, vegan cheese, and special sauce. McLaren debuted the burger last year at a pop-up and the creation became so popular that, according to local media outlet Glasgow Live, it now “causes a social media sensation whenever it rolls around.” The event is sponsored by social enterprise Chefland Project and community-building center Kinning Park Complex, and proceeds will be donated to support the center’s cafe which, according to event planners, “addresses local food poverty issues, environmental impacts of food waste, social isolation, and community solidarity.” A number of eateries worldwide have recently re-created the Bic Mac using plant-based ingredients, including San Diego-based Plant Power Fast Food’s “Big Zac” and Ontario, Canada-based Globally Local’s “Big McInnes.”
