Beyond Sausage Debuts at Veggie Grill

Starting today, vegan Beyond Sausage—the newest product from Beyond Burger-maker Beyond Meat—will be available at two Los Angeles-area locations, in El Segundo and Hollywood, of vegan chain Veggie Grill. The Original Bratwurst flavor is now on Veggie Grill’s menu as the “Wunderbrat,” which is served with caramelized onions, mustard, pickled red cabbage, and a side of Sierra Nevada cheese sauce (vegan beer cheese dipping sauce), along with crispy fries. In 2016, Veggie Grill was one of the first eateries to debut the Beyond Burger, which expanded its distribution to major chains within one year, including 465 locations of TGI Fridays nationwide. “The VG Beyond Burger has been a consistent top-seller since launching on our menu,” Veggie Grill CEO Steve Heeley said, “and we’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Beyond Meat by offering the Beyond Sausage to our plant-forward customers.” In addition to its Veggie Grill debut, the Beyond Sausage will be available at LA’s popular sausage grill Wurstküche, which will serve all three flavors—Original Bratwurst, Hot Italian, and Sweet Italian—in a build-your-own format with topping options such as sauerkraut, caramelized onions, spicy peppers, curry ketchup, and Thai peanut sauce. “We already had an existing vegetarian option on the menu, but its taste, texture, and appearance didn’t come close to that of Beyond Sausage or delivering against traditional pork sausage,” Wurstküche founder and co-owner Tyler Wilson said. “Beyond Sausage is a game-changer and the first of its kind. We think our customers will be blown away when they try it.” The Beyond Sausage—made with pea protein, fava beans, rice, coconut oil, and beet juice in an algae-based alginate casing that mimics the signature snap of animal-based sausages—first launched at one Colorado Whole Foods Market in December and debuted at sausage bar Schaller’s Stube in New York City last week.
