Mother and son duo Brenda and Aaron Beener will finally see their entrepreneurial aspirations come to fruition with the opening of Seasoned Vegan in late February, reports the New York Daily News. Harlem’s new soul food establishment will serve up cruelty-free cuisine that puts a new spin on traditional plates: lotus roots will be used for Barbecued Riblets and a soy-and-seitan medley will comprise Smothered Southern Chicken. “We want to introduce meat-and-fish eaters to another way of eating, not to change anyone’s mindset, but to provide more options,” says Brenda as quoted by the news source. The two were able to raise the money for the restaurant with the help of an online Kickstarter campaign, the Harlem Business Alliance, and Volunteers of Legal Service.
