Wendy’s Test-Markets New Vegan Burger

Restaurant chain has been selling black bean patties at two Ohio locations.

Fast-food chain Wendy’s has been quietly test-marketing a new burger at two of its Columbus, Ohio locations for the past several weeks—and it’s vegan. That is, the black bean patty and multi-grain bun are 100-percent animal-product-free, so customers can have their burger made vegan-to-order by asking that it be served without pepperjack cheese and asiago ranch sauce. The patty is also baked in an oven instead of the grill where hamburgers are fried, minimizing potential meat cross-contamination. With the $4.59 sandwich receiving positive reviews and making national headlines, here’s hoping that Wendy’s decides to give it a wider rollout.
