Musician Willow Smith is joining the Global Climate Strike on September 20. Smith, who is the daughter of celebrity couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith and the younger sister of Jaden Smith, announced on Twitter that she will be performing at the strike in New York City. “I’m joining youth and millions of people around the world to demand climate justice for all,” Smith posted. “I’ll be performing at the #ClimateStrike in New York City. Wherever you are in the world, you can join me at an event where you live: globalclimatestrike.net.” The Global Climate Strike was created by Swedish vegan climate activist Greta Thunberg, who has taken the world by storm with her message about taking climate change seriously. She started the “Fridays for Future” movement in which students leave school to strike with the aim of drawing attention to the severity of the climate change crisis. On September 20, millions of people will walk out of their workplaces and homes to join young climate strikers on the streets and demand an end to the age of fossil fuels. Last week, beauty brand LUSH announced it will shut down its 250 retail shops, e-commerce operations, headquarters, and manufacturing facilities to allow its more than 5,000 employees to participate in the global strike.
