This year, professional tennis tournament Wimbledon added a vegan version of its iconic strawberries and cream dessert to its menu. The new option swaps dairy cream for a vegan version to offer attendees a lighter, cruelty-free option. Additionally, Wimbledon will now offer guests a selection of vegan ice cream. The menu update comes after pressure from animal-rights group People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on the organization to diversify its menu options. “PETA first urged Wimbledon to offer strawberries and vegan cream in 2017, and we’re delighted to make a racquet about the new cruelty-free treat,” PETA Director of Vegan Projects Dawn Carr said. “Vegan cream is not only packed with flavour and kinder to animals and the environment but also a healthier alternative for tennis fans to enjoy in the heat.” Plant-based tennis champion Serena Williams will compete at Wimbledon on July 2.
