Brian Manowitz, also known as The Vegan Black Metal Chef, was recently interviewed by VICE regarding how he’s made a career of combining the musical genre of black metal with veganism. The 15-year vegan is a chef, musician, host of the popular YouTube show Black Metal Chef, and author of The Seitanic Spellbook, slated for a January 2016 release. Manowitz’s unique YouTube vegan cooking show made him a success, as did the soundtrack exolaining the recipes (he uses subtitles, but there is no speaking). “When the first video came out four years ago,” Manowitz says, “it was pretty unique, and it definitely struck a nerve. I didn’t do anything special to promote it. I just posted it on Facebook, and it just kind of took off from there.” In those four years he’s turned the show into a full-time job and brand. “Hopefully at some point in the future the word ‘vegan’ will be redundant and I can just be The Black Metal Chef,” he said.
