Top Chef Contestants Cook Vegan Food

Television cooking competition hits the streets of Venice so chef-testants can cook vegan food.

The latest episode of cooking program Top Chef challenged contestants to cook vegan dishes. Episode two of season 13 was filmed in Los Angeles, where contestants were split into four teams and tasked with cooking the preferred food of an assigned neighborhood. Vegan food prevailed when contestants questioned locals in Venice about their favorite cuisine. As a result, the team had to compose vegan dishes to present to the judges—Padma Lakshmi, Tom Colicchio, Gail Simmons, and former winner Richard Blais. While vegan contestant Renee Kelly, whose motto is “we change the food system one plate at a time”, was sent home at the end, Top Chef’s choice to focus on vegan food—coupled with a recent vegetarian feature on Gordon Ramsey’s Hell’s Kitchen—is proof that meatless cooking is getting the attention of cooking show producers.
