Popular New York City vegan bakery/restaurant The Cinnamon Snail created limited-edition “Donald J. Trump Getting Punched in the Face Vegan Donuts” to support the New York Immigration Coalition. A post on Facebook by the restaurant described the doughnuts as Meyer lemon-glazed, stuffed with lemon curd, and topped with a thin lemon shortbread that “provide all the satisfaction of punching Trump in the face, without actual violence, and without getting his reptilian nazi skin slime all over your hand.” Social media posts for the sweet treats garnered mostly positive reactions, but some fans raised concerns. “The term ‘nazi’ … should not become so ubiquitous that it loses its meaning—Trump may have some extreme opinions, but genocide? Come on,” said one Facebook commenter. “I like the idea, but are we really going to fight hate with hate?” pondered another. The restaurant responded by reminding fans that proceeds would be going to charity and said “[We] totally get that this gesture of ours will probably piss a few people off or upset some people, but truthfully this is an upsetting issue. We can totally just focus on wonderful, fun things, but [we] can’t ignore what appears to be the rise of fascism and racism.” Apparently, New York City eaters agreed—the restaurant’s stock of nearly 50 doughnuts sold out in 10 minutes.
