Popular vegetarian food brand MorningStar Farms recently debuted a new docu-series entitled The Veg Effect, which follows the lives of five people “leading veggie-full lives” and explores “how changing the world starts with one simple question: ‘What should I eat today?’” Among those profiled are Stic, long-time vegan and founding member of hip-hop group Dead Prez and his family in Atlanta, GA; a Los Angeles-based professional stuntwoman; a craft beer brewer from Colorado; a matriarch-tap dancer balancing traditional Ethiopian customs with veg eating; and a pair of San Diego butchers who close up shop for Meatless Mondays. “Discussing your food choices with another person is an intimate act,” director Alison Klayman said. “It’s sometimes hard to explain to someone why you do or don’t eat meat, which is why I hope this film will resonate with people. It’s become close to my heart.” The artfully-produced documentary delves into the personal lives, upbringings, and career paths of its subjects and aims to inspire everyday omnivores to incrementally adopt more plant-based lifestyles. “Whether you’re an everything-eater that never misses a Meatless Monday, a tried-and-true vegetarian, or just getting into the eating green way of life,” the film’s website reads “…any way you veg is just what the world ordered.” The film is available for download on Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes.
