The CatCafe Lounge is slated to open in Los Angeles this summer. The café will feature a variety of vegan snacks including Shugah Mama’s OG Cookie and Cookiewiches, cheese and cracker snack packs from Yvonne’s Kitchen, and a selection of cookies from local vendor Pomegranate. Drinks will include Demitasse Coffee and Draft Health-Ade Kombucha, in addition to cold brew coffee made by California-based company Verve. Along with refreshments, the café will allow guests to interact with adoptable cats and kittens, which helps to socialize cats during their visits. Founder Kristi Labrenz Galvan—who has been vegan for five years—tells VegNews that she was inspired to open the CatCafe Lounge after encountering a similar concept in Japan. “Animal Welfare is in my DNA so opening a cat café was a no brainer,” Galvan says. Galvan plans to collaborate with more vegan vendors—that do not explicitly “scream vegan” on their packaging in order to attract a wide customer base. On the East coast, vegan eatery Morgan’s Cat Cafe, in Red Hook, NY operates with a similar mission and serves a wide array of vegan burgers, wraps, and juices.
