Vegan singer Miley Cyrus appeared on a recent episode of The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon wherein she was tasked to sing classic Christmas song, “Santa Baby.” In the segment, Cyrus first speaks with Fallon about changes that she plans to make to the lyrics of the song—which revolves around a woman asking Santa for lavish gifts such as yachts and cars. “Has anyone actually ever listened to them? Look at this: Slip a sable under the tree for me. Do you even know what that is? It’s a fur and I’m vegan,” Cyrus told Fallon about the song’s lyrics. “Plus, am I saying I’m going to hook up with Santa if he buys me all of this stuff?’” In her rendition, Cyrus also injected feminist themes into the song. Instead of material gifts, Cyrus asked Santa for equal wages for all genders and the end of sexual harassment (such as unsolicited pictures of male genitalia). Cyrus concluded the song with a clever refrain, singing “just put away the chimney tonight.” Since going vegan in 2014, Cyrus has frequently used her fame as a platform to advocate for animal rights and social justice issues. Between debuting her third vegan collection with apparel brand Converse and releasing her politically charged hit single “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart,” the vegan star spent time in South Africa filming an episode for hit Netflix series Black Mirror, scheduled to debut on December 28.
