Multinational food corporation Danone recently released its earnings report for the first quarter of 2018 which showed a large increase in profits. The company credited its plant-based brands as a major component of its more than $7.2 billion in sales this quarter. “Plant-based foods and beverages again delivered strong sales growth,” the report stated, “driven by the ongoing rebound in nut-based beverages, successful media and marketing campaigns, and premium innovations.” In 2016, Danone acquired WhiteWave Foods—parent company of plant-based brands such as Silk, So Delicious, Vega, and Alpro—for $12.5 billion, forming new conglomerate DanonWave, and has consistently reported increased growth driven by its plant-based holdings.
