Starting on October 16, fast-food chain Hardee’s will offer vegan Beyond Meat options at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The chain will test a new Beyond Breakfast Sausage Biscuit and an Original Beyond Thickburger for a limited time in Raleigh, NC, and Kansas City, MO. The breakfast biscuit includes a Beyond Breakfast Sausage patty on a Hardee’s biscuit and can be customized with toasted sourdough bread or a tortilla to make it vegan. The Thickburger features a Beyond Burger patty topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise on a toasted bun, and it can be made vegan if ordered as a lettuce wrap and without the mayo. To celebrate the launch, on October 28 Hardee’s will offer customers a free Beyond biscuit during breakfast hours and the Thickburger during lunch and dinner hours, with the purchase of a large drink. In January, Beyond Meat partnered with Carl’s Jr.—which is owned by Hardee’s parent company CKE Restaurants—to launch the Beyond Famous Star, a plant-based version of the chain’s signature burger. With more than 4.5 million Beyond Famous Stars sold to date, Hardee’s has taken key insights from the Carl’s Jr. launch and applied them to the test at Hardee’s restaurants. “Hardee’s has a strong heritage across the Southeast and their desire to offer the Beyond Burger and Beyond Breakfast Sausage reflects an important shift in the demand for plant-based meat,” Ethan Brown, Beyond Meat CEO and founder, said. “We’re excited to make plant-based options accessible in more and more communities as we move toward a better-for-you, more sustainable future.” Earlier this year, a petition was launched by Wisconsin resident Alishia Vavilakolanu urging Hardee’s to add a Beyond Burger option to its menu. The petition received more than 10,000 signatures in 24 hours.

Editor’s note: Hardee’s prepares Beyond Meat products on shared surfaces with animal-derived products.
