Vegan tattoo artist and makeup mogul Kat Von D will launch her anticipated vegan shoe brand, Von D Shoes, on November 1 (World Vegan Day). The 32-style collection will be available in sizes 5 through 12, and will feature ethically made high heels, platforms, boots, slip-ons, creepers, and more, some in gender-fluid styles. Produced with materials such as apple-based leather, embossed velvets, satin, recycled rubber, coated canvas, and faux fur, Von D Shoes are made in healthy working conditions in the same family-owned Italian factory used by brands such as Gucci, Jimmy Choo, and Louboutin. In collaboration with a team of artisans, Von D began work on the collection several years ago and her signature gothic style—and animal-rights ethos—is reflected in the fabrics, hardware, box design, logos, and tissue paper design, along with marketing materials. “When I first became vegan, I found that finding vegan shoes was a lot more challenging than finding vegan food. I really felt like I could fill that void in the market by creating vegan shoes that are affordable, but built to last a lifetime,” Von D said. “Finding vegan shoes of good quality that you are comfortable wearing because you know they are vegan was my main concern. I think that my team and I did a great job executing this, and I can’t wait to hear what our customers have to say.” Ranging in price from $90 to $350, the first 13 styles of the collection will be available on release day—through the brand’s website and available for international shipping—with the remaining 19 styles to be launched over the course of the following months. To further promote the vegan message, Von D will donate proceeds from select styles to support no-kill animal shelters.
