Retailer Costco will begin selling the new vegan Awesome Burger at select locations in Texas and the Midwest next month. A package of burgers will retail for $10.79 and include six quarter-pound patties. The plant-based burger and its vegan ground beef counterpart—made by the Sweet Earth vegetarian brand, which Nestlé acquired for an undisclosed amount in 2017—is formulated with yellow pea protein and debuted last month in the refrigerated section of select Safeway, Wegmans, Hy-Vee, and Shop & Stop stores, with a full national rollout to follow in the coming weeks. Earlier this month, Nestlé unveiled a new concept: the “PB Triple Play,” a packaged deal that features the Awesome Burger patty along with newly developed vegan bacon and cheese that the brand plans to sell to its existing restaurant and food-service partners to create a fully vegan bacon cheeseburger.
