Swiss company Nestlé Toll House debuted vegan white chocolate baking chips during trade show Natural Products Expo West today. The White Morsels are the latest addition to the company’s allergen-free Simply Delicious line, which debuted last year. The six-ingredient product contains organic cocoa butter, cane sugar, and tapioca starch. “When you have allergies, you have very limited options, and we wanted to expand and give people with allergies a wide variety of options,” Carlo Ramirez de Arellano, Nestlé Toll House Communications Manager, told VegNews. The white chocolate chips ($4.99) will debut in August at major retailers including Walmart and Kroger. The Simply Delicious line includes Semi-Sweet and Delicious Dark baking chips free of the eight major food allergens (milk, eggs, wheat, soy, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, and shellfish). “We have a lot of options in the oven and we’re going to expand with different flavors, including a matcha-flavored baking chip that we’re currently evaluating,” Ramirez de Arellano said. To focus on more of its plant-based offerings, Nestlé recently ditched its deli-meat brand Herta and plans to debut a vegan burger, the Incredible Burger, this spring.
