California-based vegan fast-casual chain Veggie Grill will open on select college and university campuses during the 2019-2020 school year thanks to a recent partnership with food-service provider Sodexo. Launched in 2006, the 32-location chain currently has outposts in California, Washington, Oregon, and Illinois. “We have strategically opened several of our restaurant locations nearby or on college campuses, including UCLA, UC Berkeley, and University of Washington,” Veggie Grill CEO Steve Heeley said. “College students are at the forefront of the plant-based movement and they are more mindful about what they eat. We look forward to partnering with Sodexo to serve our plant-based food to a wider audience of university students and faculty.” The dynamic menu at Veggie Grill—which is the first chain to serve the Beyond Burger, Beyond Sausage, and Just Egg—features burgers, wraps, salads, sides, and desserts. “Our college customers have asked for more plant-based options,” Don Wood, Senior Director of External Partnerships at Sodexo, said. “Veggie Grill is the perfect partner to give them what they want. We continually look for ways to provide innovative dining experiences for our college customers.” In addition to college campuses, Veggie Grill will expand to locations on the East Coast, including New York City, later this year.
