This week, chef and restaurateur Matthew Kenney unveiled his frozen food line, Plant Made, at trade show Natural Products Expo West. Kenney created the line to make the frozen-food aisles healthier with organic, plant-based options at accessible prices. “I’ve been doing higher-end restaurants for a while now, but my goal from the beginning was to use my platform to expand into a broader consumer market such as hospitals and schools,” Kenney told VegNews. Kenney owns more than two dozen vegan restaurants worldwide, including pizzeria Double Zero—which he will expand into an additional frozen food line, Double Zero Now, this spring. The chef is also working with Saudi Arabian vegan Prince Khaled bin Alwaleed bin Talal Al Saud to introduce vegan food to the Middle East through plant-based concept Folia, which launched at the Four Seasons Hotel in Bahrain Bay last month. “My goal is to change the food paradigm, and I want to make it much more accessible.” The Plant Made frozen foods, priced at $3.99 and lower, feature everything from entrées to snacks to dessert, including Panko Crusted Pumpkin Shrimp with Rice; Cavatelli Macaroni & Cheese; Butternut Squash Gnocchi; Buffalo Cauliflower; and Strawberry Lime Cheesecake. Plant Made begins production in April with plans to debut in major retailers such as Walmart, Whole Foods Market, and Sprouts at the end of May.
