This week, a demolition crew dismantled that last-standing Denny’s restaurant in Marin County, CA to make room for Amy’s Drive Thru—a vegan-friendly eatery owned by vegetarian food brand Amy’s Kitchen. Vacant since 2014, the space in Corte Madera, CA will be repurposed into the second location of Amy’s which serves an affordable (and fully veganizable) menu of burgers, chili, pizzas, breakfast, mac and cheese, milkshakes, and more. In 2015, Amy’s Drive Thru opened its flagship location in nearby Rohnert Park, CA to much fanfare, serving more than 500 customers on opening day. Amy’s was delayed in building the new Corte Madera location due to a county ordinance that prohibited drive-through restaurants in the area. However, on May 8, 2018, the county’s Planning Commission recommended that the Town Council approve the construction of Amy’s Drive Thru, which it did during a public hearing on June 4, 2018. Amy’s is also planning to open an outpost inside of the San Francisco International Airport in July, with more locations to come in 2020.
