Florida-based chicken chain Pollo Tropical recently added the Vegan Tropichop to the menu of its 140 locations. The chain partnered with vegan company Beyond Meat to create the dish ($4.49) which features a choice of white or brown rice, black beans, Beyond Beef crumble “picadillo” (a traditional Latin American meat blend), and comes topped with sautéed peppers and onions. Beyond Beef is also available as part of the chain’s new Vegan Wrap ($4.09) which includes beans, rice, and plantains. “At Pollo Tropical, we pride ourselves on always offering guests the most delicious food at a great value,” Hope Diaz, Chief Marketing Officer of Fiesta Restaurant Group, parent company of Pollo Tropical, said. “That’s why we’re excited to introduce the Beyond Meat menu items, so we can offer new great tasting choices to guests looking for plant-based options with the bold flavors they’ve come to expect from us.” In recent months, several Florida chains have partnered with Beyond Meat to launch vegan options, including 4 Rivers Smokehouse which now offers vegan Beyond Burnt Ends. At Miami Grill—a chain that counts musician Pitbull as its key equity partner—the Beyond Burger it added to the menu in August now accounts for 25 percent of its total burger sales.
