Entrepreneur Alexis Ohanian—known for co-founding social media platform Reddit—took to Twitter recently to express his thoughts about the future of food and fashion. “Not the time, I know, but plant-based foods, products, etc. are going to get a huge bump next decade as we realize what our factory-animal-processing practices have done to our health and safety,” Ohanian tweeted on November 5—as Americans eagerly awaited election results. Ohanian made the statement after retweeting a story about Denmark’s government enforcing the mass killing of the country’s mink after a mutated version of the COVID-19 virus was found on multiple fur farms.

While Ohanian is not vegan himself, the entrepreneur is famously married to plant-based tennis world champion Serena Williams and the couple has previously invested in Impossible Foods—helping the plant-based company secure $300 million in Series E funding round last year.  Ohanian is also investing in a plant-based future by backing Simulate (maker of high-tech vegan chicken nuggets NUGGS) and Eclipse Foods (creators of next-level vegan ice cream).

In June, Ohanian stepped down from the board of directors at Reddit and requested that he be replaced by a Black executive. Later that month, Reddit appointed Michael Seibel—the CEO of incubator program Y Combinator—as its first Black board member.
