Innovative vegan ice cream made by San Francisco startup Eclipse Foods will soon be available in artisan ice cream shops Wanderlust Creamery and Long Beach Creamery in Southern California. Starting in late February, all five Los Angeles locations of Wanderlust will offer a Sweet Cream Berry Rose Petal Jam vegan ice cream flavor, while all three locations of Long Beach Creamery will feature vegan Cashew Fennel Chip and Black Ring Coffee flavors. Earlier this month, trendy restaurant Honeybee Burger began serving a vegan chocolate soft serve made with Eclipse’s ice cream base in LA.

Eclipse was founded last year by two food-technology experts: Aylon Steinhart (who previously worked with nonprofit The Good Food Institute) and Thomas Bowman (an award-winning chef and the former Director of Product Development at San Francisco startup JUST). Backed by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Gmail founder Paul Buchheit, and Daiya Foods’ former Chairman of the Board Eric Patel, Eclipse uses a blend of plants such as corn and cassava to create vegan milk—free of soy, wheat, nuts, coconut, gums, gels, stabilizers, or GMOs—that is identical to animal-based dairy on a molecular level.

The company made its bicoastal debut in November on the menu at New York City-based OddFellows ice cream chain and San Francisco-based Humphry Slocombe. In addition to expanding its distribution to Southern California, Eclipse is now on the menu at additional Bay Area restaurants and scoop shops, including Mitchell’s Ice Cream, Milkbomb Ice Cream, Acre Pizza, and small-batch scoop shop The Good Scoop—where it is used Eclipse’s base for Eggnog, Horchata, Banana, Coffee, Cookies & Cream flavors. On the East Coast, Eclipse is available at vegan-friendly Equinox Restaurant in Washington, DC and debuted on February 1 at all three Washington, DC locations of Ice Cream Jubilee in two flavors: Banana Bourbon Caramel & Thai Iced Tea.
