This week, musician Lizzo took to TikTok to share a video titled “Tale of a Fat Vegan,” a journal of what she typically eats in one day as a new vegan. “Disclaimer: this is not every day but this is a pretty average one,” Lizzo said before sharing her meals. The singer starts the day with a green smoothie made from coconut water, greens such as kale or spinach, and frozen fruit before moving on to a salad featuring kale, red cabbage, broccoli, avocado, onions, and carrots. For a snack, Lizzo digs into Lesser Evil’s cassava-based puffs (an alternative to Hot Cheetos) and dips them into hummus. “Bada boom, bada snack,” she describes the combo. For dinner, Lizzo puts together Shroomeats’ mushroom balls, truffled chickpeas, quinoa, and salad leftover from lunch washed down with a Batch Craft Soda diet cola. After dinner, Lizzo enjoys a peanut butter jelly smoothie made from strawberries, oats, oat milk, protein powder, and “love from Jesus.”

Lizzo ends the video by sharing a message urging her 8.8 million TikTok followers to continue fighting for justice for Breonna Taylor—an Black essential worker killed by police while she was sleeping in her home on March 13—by texting “ENOUGH” to 55156 and demanding that the officers who killed her are arrested and charged. “So yeah, that was my day,” Lizzo said. “I feel very lit and full.”

Last week, Lizzo revealed that she officially went vegan while sharing a recipe for a breakfast scramble made with mung bean-based JUST Egg. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdown, the musician has been creating a variety of vegan dishes, including a spicy vegan take on McDonald’s McChicken sandwich; Jamaican patties; and vegan ice cream bread made with Ben & Jerry’s new Netflix & Chilll’d non-dairy ice cream flavor. For Juneteenth—a holiday celebrated on June 19 in honor of the date when the last remaining slaves were declared free in 1865—Lizzo ordered a massive, multi-day feast from local Black chefs and companies in the Los Angeles area.
