Legendary rapper Snoop Dogg—alongside Bill Glaser, CEO of vegan snack brand Outstanding Foods—was recently a guest judge at a marketing presentation by students at Loyola Marymount University (LMU). The quarantine-style Zoom event was led by LMU professor Mitch Hamilton, PhD, and tasked students with creating presentations to promote Outstanding Foods’ line of vegan pork rinds, which it launched in February in four soy-free flavors: Original, Hella Hot, Texas BBQ, and Nacho Cheese.

The students’ marketing pitches included “Stay in and Smoke” (an Instagram live-stream where Snoop Dogg and television personality Rob Dydrek would smoke marijuana, eat snacks, and talk about plant-based diets); and a “Pig Out” TikTok challenge (where a person first spins around to a Snoop Dogg song and then tries to catch pork rinds in their mouth). “That was a dope ass presentation,” Snoop Doog said. “Overall, we loved your guys’ pitches. Everyone did a great job.” This summer, the winning student teams will work with Glaser and Snoop Dogg to turn their presentations into real marketing campaigns to benefit essential workers during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Snoop Dogg invested in Outstanding Foods in March and, as part of the partnership, the musician launched a dedicated website to sell Outstanding Foods’ vegan pork rinds and 10 percent of sales are donated to Snoop Special Stars, a non-profit organization that helps to provide opportunities for inner-city children to participate in youth football and cheerleading. Earlier this month, Outstanding Foods donated a total of $35,000 to Equal Justice Initiative and Snoop Youth Football League to support their efforts in creating meaningful change for communities of color.

In addition to Outstanding Foods, Snoop Dogg is a celebrity ambassador of vegan brand Beyond Meat. In November, the rapper put on a Dunkin’ uniform and served breakfast to unsuspecting customers to promote the chain’s national launch of the Beyond Sausage Breakfast Sandwich. Most recently, Snoop Dogg appeared in Beyond Meat’s “Why Go Beyond” content series where he revealed that he sneaks Beyond Meat’s vegan products into meals to help his family try plant-based meats.
