Last night, musician Lizzo threw an elaborate watch party for the premiere of Black Is King—an anticipated musical film created by legendary singer Beyoncé which serves as a digital companion to 2019 album The Lion King. The celebration, which Lizzo shared with her 9.1 followers through her Instagram Stories, kicked off with a sparkling black carpet that led up to a giant statue of Beyoncé’s butt with a placard that read, “What would Beyoncé do?” The party also included snacks such as vegan “honey” buns and plain Lay’s potato chips, along with cocktails. Los Angeles-based vegan restaurant Munchies Diner catered the event with dishes such as mashed potatoes, greens, mac and cheese, and vegan bacon-topped fried chicken sandwiches. The party concluded in the pool at midnight (when the film became available on Disney+) where Lizzo and friends queued up Black Is King on an outdoor screen.

After sharing a variety of plant-based recipes during the COVID-19 lockdown, Lizzo announced that she is officially vegan in June after a blowout, multi-day Juneteenth celebration which included carne asada tacos, pasta plates, ribs, chicken sandwiches, cauliflower wings, and more catered by Black-owned vegan businesses in Los Angeles.
