This month, Vegan Crab Cakes and Breaded Vegan Shrimp launched at 400 Walmart stores. Made by Sophie’s Kitchen—a California-based vegan seafood pioneer founded in 2010—the new soy- and gluten-free plant-based seafood products are made from ingredients such as pea protein and konjac powder and will be available in Walmart’s frozen section.  

“We’re incredibly excited to introduce our plant-based seafood offerings to Walmart shoppers,” Sophie’s Kitchen CEO Miles Woodruff said. “As the plant-based movement continues to grow, we’re hopeful that meatless alternatives become easier to find at affordable prices. Our crab cakes and breaded shrimp are two of our top selling products and we’re thrilled to see them enter Walmart’s frozen section.”

In recent months, Walmart has added a variety of plant-based products, including JUST Egg, Impossible Burger, and Silk’s new heavy whipping cream.
