7-Eleven Launches Vegan Meals at 800 Locations Across Hong Kong

This week, convenience chain 7-Eleven added two vegan ready-made meals to its 800 locations across Hong Kong. The meals are produced by local brand OmniEats—part of the OmniFoods brand portfolio founded by David Yeung, an eco-conscious entrepreneur who owns social enterprise Green Monday—and are available in two flavors that feature its vegan pork: Spicy Thai Basil OmniPork Rice and Thai OmniPork Stir-Fried Noodles. Until October 27, the flash-frozen meals will be available at a discounted price of HK$30 ($3.87) to compete with the pricing of similar non-vegan meals. 

In addition to its 7-Eleven partnership, the vegan brand is aggressively expanding the availability of its products at other retailers and foodservice providers in countries around Asia. In March, OmniFoods partnered with convenience store chain FamilyMart to launch two flavors of its Omnipork Instant Meal Cups at 3,600 locations across Taiwan. Earlier this week, the company’s newly launched OmniPork Luncheon Meat—a vegan version of SPAM—became available at 280 locations of McDonald’s and 122 McCafé outlets across Hong Kong and Macau.
