Discount supermarket chain Aldi UK recently expanded its private-label meatless line with Mae’s Kitchen Vegan No Sausage Rolls, No Beef Burgers, and No Chicken Burgers. The No Sausage Rolls contain a soy-based sausage wrapped in a flaky, golden puff pastry. The No Chicken Burgers are made from a blend of soy and pea proteins, onions, and mushrooms. And the No Chicken Burgers are made with vegetable protein and covered in a golden crumb coating. “The launch of our new vegan range is in response to our growing, ethically inspired customer base looking for delicious alternatives to meat, and is another example of our ongoing commitment to cater for all diets, at everyday low prices,” Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi, told media outlet Vegan Food & Living. “We look forward to expanding our vegan offering even further over the coming months.” Earlier this year, competing chains Waitrose, Marks & Spencer, and Tesco also launched their own vegan sausage products following the overwhelming popularity of Greggs’ vegan sausage rolls—which debuted at select locations in January and have since been expanded to all 1,950 locations across the United Kingdom and played a role in the surge in Greggs stock prices.
