California-based vegetarian brand Amy’s Kitchen has donated more than 150,000 vegan meal products to date to food banks and 6,000 masks to local hospitals to support healthcare workers and those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic. The brand donated meals to food banks near its headquarters in Sonoma County, CA, as well as in Medford, OR, and Pocatello, ID, where its production plants are located. The company is also providing meals from its vegan-friendly Amy’s Drive Thru locations to Bay Area hospitals, medical staff, and first responders.
“As the effects of COVID-19 spread throughout the world and with so many of us experiencing heightened uncertainty, few things feel more important than to have good, safe food available for ourselves and our loved ones,” Amy’s co-founder Rachel Berliner said. “As a food company, we here at Amy’s Kitchen take this seriously every day, but we are feeling the urgency of it now more than ever.”
In recent weeks, a number of vegan brands have stepped up to help feed frontline medical workers and others in need during COVID-19. British brand The Meatless Farm pledged to donate 20,000 of its plant-based sausages to hospital workers in the United Kingdom, and Beyond Meat recently launched its Feed A Million+ campaign to send more than a million vegan Beyond Burgers to food banks, frontline workers, and organizations in need.
