NBA player Kyrie Irving of the Boston Celtics revealed last week that he has adopted a plant-based diet. The star player explained his dietary shift to Chauncey Billups during a recent ESPN postgame show—after the Celtics beat the Charlotte Hornets 108 to 100. “Well, this season, [I am following] more of a plant-based diet,” Irving said. “Getting away from the animals and all that, I had to get away from that. So my energy is up, my body feels amazing.” Irving joins a growing number of professional athletes—including fellow NBA players Jahlil Okafor, Damian Lillard, and Wilson Chandler—to recently adopt an animal-free diet for optimal performance.
